The Drawing My Daughter Made

The drawing looked simple at first.

A house.

Three stick figures.

But then I noticed something strange.

One of the figures was lying on the ground.

Red scribbles surrounded it.

“Children draw strange things sometimes,” I said nervously.

The teacher shook her head.

“Look closer.”

I flipped the paper over.

My daughter had written something in crayon.

Five words.

“Daddy said don’t tell mommy.”
