(CNN) – President Donald Trump is defending his posting of a controversial AI-generated image to social media Sunday.
In the AI-generated image, Trump is glowing and has his hand on what appears to be a sick man’s forehead.
The image was widely criticized as depicting Trump as Jesus, but Trump said that was not the case.
“I did post it and I thought it was me as a doctor, and had to do with the Red Cross as a Red Cross worker there, which we support,” he said. “It’s supposed to be me as a doctor making people better, and I do make people better. I make people a lot better.”
Trump posted the image shortly after criticizing Pope Leo XIV for speaking against the war in Iran.
Some critics called it blasphemous.
It was later removed.
